American Idol elimination... bye bye Brooke

Well, I figured this. It should be Sayesha but she'll be in two weeks, after Jason is gone, leaving the two Davids. Sayesha's voice is a dime a dozen... Brooke was different, unique. Whatever.

American Idol Recap... Paula's off her meds!

Seriously, she judges these kids? Each contestant sang 2 songs tonight. The first songs were sung straight through, with no critique by the judges until the end. Randy made a quick comment on each of the 5. Paula, starting with Jason, first critiqued his first song, then proceeded to his second number? When it was pointed out that he'd only sang 1 song she said, "oh, I thought you sang twice!" What does one say to that? Gotta love live tv!

David C., David A... final two... should just cut to the chase. I really liked Brooke's second song. Jason, as cute as a button but he's a balladeer not an American Idol. Sayesha, forgettable.

Unintentional theme!

Looking back at the last two posts, I realize I have a theme... Grass! hehe So, I've put up a pic of a pot of grass to tie them together.

Back to the 70's, school locker sniffer searches!

Random use of police sniffer dogs breaches charter:

The use of drug-sniffing police dogs in the random search of a southwestern Ontario school and a Calgary bus terminal was unconstitutional, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled Friday. In a 6-3 decision, the top court ruled that the actions breached Section 8 of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which covers what constitutes reasonable search and seizure.

So, to all my '70's friends from high school who were nabbed by the random sniffer dogs and still carry records, go get 'em cleared folks. They used to walk the halls with those dogs at least once a month if not more, out of the knowledge that they knew those long haired, hippie, freaks were smoking that marijuana!

Peace!

First lawn mower of the year!

Mich and I were chatting in the kitchen when suddenly we were interrupted by the sound of the first lawn mower of 2008! The kitchen virtually exploded with excitement ... we were stunned to silence! We looked at each other and both said aloud... "who is it?" I said there should be a reward. Mich said well then go and get a beer! Everyone knows that lawn mowing requires a beer! I grabbed one, ran outside and went to the house to the right of me.

I presented the beer and congratulated Sabet on being the first one in the hood to fire up his mower. He told me he just wanted to see if it still ran, but once it started decided to do the whole back yard.

Coming back into the house, Mich reminded me that Bob/Daddy, refuses to fire up our machine until the Victoria Day weekend. Well, actually he says "May 24th." So this year it's actually a few days past the Victoria Day weekend which is May 19th! I think it's kind of like the never wear white after labour day thingy? Or just a good excuse? He scoffs and mocks those who cut their grass pre-May 24th... though I'm pretty sure last year it was a tad premature for him too?

I'd like to mention that by May 24th, we'll need machetes to get through the back yard!

ps... to my family who live East and North of me, oh and those waaaaaaaay West and North of me who still have snow... ummmm... sorry about your luck! :)

American Idol... elimination... surely you jest!

Carly Smithson going home? lord love a duck... are you all tone deaf? Were there hanging chads? Problems with the voting machines? At least that time there was an excuse. sigh...

p.s. I couldn't have been more wrong in my predictions this week!

Nothing new to report...

Illness and fireworks season do NOT mix!

There is no such thing as quiet at a fireworks company, 28 days before Victoria Day! sigh...

American Idol, recap

These two should be the final two. David A. needs a bit more training, especially in breathing, he's young. Sayesha should go home but it will likely be Brooke, with Jason the other bottom 3 contestant.

Guilt and Alfred Hitchcock!

Mich and I decided to stop feeding the birds once the seed ran out. It is spring, there is food and really they don't need us anymore! Well... tell them that! They gathered early this morning, Cardinals, Grackles, Sparrows, Finches, Jays, Starlings, well you get the drift. They were NOT impressed. I took the feeder down last night so as not to taunt them.

Mich suggested a "closed" sign. I decided against it. Maybe I should have listened. I swear they're out there cussing me! Glaring maybe plotting? yikes!

I felt the earth, move... under my bed...

Living by the US/Canada border, about 200' from an underground rail tunnel that runs to Detroit, I am used to feeling slight vibrations as trains go through the tunnel. At 5:30 this morning I awoke thinking, "wow, that must be one heck of a train!" Only to discover that an earthquake had occurred. As earthquakes go, it wasn't much of one BUT... I hadn't gone to sleep until 12:30am!

The best earthquake I've ever experienced was in Calgary, in the 80's. I was sound asleep on my water bed when suddenly I was body surfing! Seriously, there was a tsunami happening! (Earthquakes can cause tsunamis you know!) The only other one I've felt was in Windsor, very early 80's and I happened to be laying in the tub at the time. I jumped out, grabbed an towel and ran into the living room to find pictures askew, and a couple of knick knacks knocked over. I had thought that on was a big truck going down the road past my apartment building.

Sooner or later I'm going to figure out that hey, earthquakes happen and it's not always large motorized vehicles shaking me up!

American Idol... finally!

Ok fine. It was even worth having to listen to Mariah, (though I was emptying the dryer during her singing; hey can't let stuff wrinkle,) if it meant finally getting rid of Kristy!

Don't be shocked

Yes I'm blogging during American Idol results show... Hello... Mariah Scary remember? Even the opening number made my teeth hurt! I'm going to tune in for the last 5 minutes. She's going to sing tonight, that's worse than the kids having to sing her songs.

Notes, written and responses delivered with a sarcastic one.

This is a note I left on the counter this morning for Bob & Michelle. Michelle my loving (and oh so grateful for all I do for her,) child called me at work. I quote, "I'm thinking of having you micro chipped in case you wander outside of the yard." end quote! (I realize that stating "quote" and "end quote" whilst using quotation marks is redundant, I am accentuating my point, not exhibiting any further signs of confusion!)

I, of course, took great umbrage at that remark. As an ironic aside, I did end up working late, unscheduled to do so. Unlike TOMORROW, which IS THURSDAY, where I am scheduled to work late.

Blast from the past

Today, I heard from an old friend. He found me on Facebook. He was always one of my favourite people in high school. Hearing from him made me think back to my favourite things. Dan Fogelberg was one of them. He left us too soon. This song always made me sing at the top of my voice, with all my heart. I always substituted the word "life" for "love." Love, was easy, life... well that was hard. Still I marvel at what life throws at you. How hard life seems to fight to make itself tough and really, how simple, happy and easy it should just be. Thinking about this, I guess I never really left the 70's did I?

American Idol, re-cap... Scary week!

Who cares? It was Mariah Scary week... blah, blah. David A, David C & Jason, they can make almost anything sound good. Poor kids, what a tough week! blech...

Mariah Scary... and my bitter dissapointement!

I'm in the kitchen, cleaning up after a great dinner when Mich asks, "hey are you watching American Idol tonight?" I say "sure, why?" She asks if I know what week it is. I get nervous... I try to say, "well, they're going to whittle it down to 6 isn't it?" She replies with "I don't want to upset you." I realize... OMG... It's Mariah week! If I wanted to listed to a bunch of air, with constant trilling to try to get to the note, I'd go to a hot air balloon festival! GAWD... I'd even settle for a Kellie Pickler, Kristy Lee Cook, Carrie Underwood night over Mariah Scary!

I now officially have NOTHING to which to look forward to! One can only hope that maybe, just maybe someone in the last 7, does something to pull those sickly songs into something worth listening to!

All is right with the world...

Spring has sprung, happy avian sounds fill my backyard. Buds are bursting, things are greening and other than fireworks season rapidly approaching... I am happy. (oh and knowing that 40 degree temps are around the corner doesn't impress me much either!) :)

I jinxed myself...

Today; was even worse than yesterday. Who'd a thought it possible? Can't wait for tomorrow...

Seriously... get a real job!

I have had it... it's open season on these blights on human kind! Google CRTC, fill out the form, it only takes a minute... How do they sleep at night knowing what everyone thinks of them? If "The Weed Man" calls here one more time... I'm going to their office and it's not going to be pretty!

My Saturday night with homie & the hookers!

Well, after the party mentioned in the post below, Mich and I drove to our hotel. A suite, $162.00 a night and were looking forward to a good night's sleep. HA! Mich slept in one room, I in another. (She says that sometimes I snore. I know that's not true, couldn't be, but I humour her.) I was just nicely asleep some time after midnight when...

OMG! Homie and the Hookers came home to the room across the hall! One girl was named Rochelle, I have many more details but being a "G" rated blog, cannot pass them on! Yelling, squealing, screaming, giggling and much descriptive language ensued. At one point, and I have no idea why, homie took the party into the parking lot, outside my window where I was able to get a good look at him. He was on his cell phone. The blue glow nicely lit up his white cap, kind of like a black light. Michie thinks maybe he went outside as his was a non-smoking room. She cracks me up that kid! Hey rules are rules she says...

Anyway, the hilarity continued until apparently Rochelle either wasn't feeling well or just needed a nap when homie so gallantly told her she could use any of the beds to lay down. A true gentleman! The other girl kept homie company until London's finest came and broke up their party. At which point I was able to go back to sleep... briefly.

Did I mention the kid's basketball teams and their 9872 family members? The ones who somehow were under the impression they were the only guests? The ones who allowed their darlings to freely run screaming through the halls starting at 6:45am?

I got up, got dressed and went to get a coffee from the courtesy breakfast area. Mistake! Guess where all the little darlings where? There was food strewn everywhere, more screaming and yelling. No inside voices in evidence. Indulgent parents, loving watching their children behave like heathens. I like kids, I have a couple, I used to be one for crying out loud, but for the love of all that is holy, get some control over them!

At this point I went to the front desk and asked the lovely girl working the following question. "So, do you provide the hookers for your guests or do they have to bring in their own?" (Pretty good for 7am with no sleep eh?) She responded by asking what room I was in, I told her 103. She said "oh yes, the police were called about them." I then told her how happy I was to hear the pitter patter of 4000 little feet and sweet children's' voices at 6:45am, all the while smiling my sweetest smile! Well, it may have been my mean face, at that hour I can't keep them apart! I mentioned their 100% room satisfaction guarantee and asked her to talk to someone and see what they wanted to do about it.

I went back to the breakfast room, hoping it had improved and... the room went dark. Actually, the whole hotel went dark, no hydro! Just the hotel not the whole city or anything. I figure some little darling had stuck a knife in an outlet or something while his doting parent looked lovingly on. The really bad part was they all came down the stairs which exited beside my room.

I plugged in the kettle for Michie's tea figuring I'd spare her the breakfast melee. It didn't work. I went and got her a tea. The breakfast room was even worse if that is possible.

The power eventually came back on, then off again, then no working tv stations.

At check out a new girl was working. She tried to bill me. I said hey... did no one mention homie & the hookers? Raging hoards of juvenile louts rampaging in the halls? She offered 50%. I mentioned the 100% guarantee.

I am $162.00 richer but very, very tired!

Party like it's your birthday!

Yesterday was the party for my brother-in-law, Mike, in London. Mich and I drove down and a great time was had by all! It was great to see everyone. My sister's neighbours know for sure now that Spring is here. If I'm on her porch, the snow is over. Keeping in mind I don't drive on the highway in winter.

Tons of family, friends, food, and drink. Mike and I add up to 100 now... we should get more respect!

Temporary lack of posting...

I am off to London until Sunday evening. My darling Brother-in-law is joining me in the 50 club! Party tomorrow night. I'll be back. (Feel free to insert Austrian accent!)

Is it just me?

When I'm near a "student driver" I become a perfect driver. My hands go to 10 & 2. I stop far enough behind the car ahead to see his rear wheels on the road. I do Exorcist style shoulder checks, I signal lane changes. I think I'm trying to be a good example? I imagine the teacher saying "see, see that woman in the red car? Look at her, that's how you should drive." I feel so mentorish, so proud... Bob, my insurance agent Gerry and numerous friends may scoff at this but hey remember, not one of the 9 or 10 accidents have been my fault! ha!

Hello... who are you?

So Bob is working afternoons. 2pm to about 12:30am. I work days. I also have been a tad busy and not really home much since last Saturday. Too busy at work to phone home during the time he's awake before he goes to work. Today I did call home but when he called me back, the lines were all busy and he got the answering machine. That went over well!

Tonight I call him at work. He answers... I start talking about this weekend. He says "who is this?" Keep in mind there are presses and gigantic machines running in the background so I say "it's me!" He says "who?" I say it again... He says he "thinks he knows the voice from somewhere." I finally catch on. I'm not calling him anymore! There's a note on the kitchen counter about the furnace humidifier leaking all over the basement. Let him have to write his sarcastic response! Ha!

American Idol elimination... so close to lights out!

Every week they tease me. They come withing millimeters of pulling the plug on... Kristy! Every week my hopes are raised, only to be dashed. Hey, kinda like Jesus and Gravity eh? (If you didn't watch you have no idea what I'm talking about do you?) Oh, Ramiele is gone.

I'm still here... sort of!

No time to blog, just swimming in circles, sometimes bouncing off the sides! :)
