Dazed and Confused!

Last night I forgot to put the brownies in the oven left them on top of the stove.

Today I found out Christmas Eve is Monday, NOT Sunday. While relieved, as it gives me an extra day, it still is a bit of a shock. Then, re-reading a list, I realized I bought the completely wrong thing! Good thing I now have an extra day!

Note- there was NO wine involved today!

Age? Wine? Distractions?

I was making two kinds of brownies for the Christmas Eve open house. I was sipping wine, I was talking to Bob, I was talking to Robbie, (in Calgary,) on the phone, the doorbell rang, (I should mention it was a delivery of delicious fudge from Susan next door, very distracting!)... the oven timer went off; the oven I had pre-heated to 350 then set for 30 minutes. I put on oven mitts, ran to the stove, opened the door reached in... it was empty! The brownies were sitting on top of the stove, raw! sigh...

Bob, (husband, not next door,) is now lecturing me about the hydro bill!

I know it's NOT the wine!

Fa, la, la!

Driving home from work. Bumper to bumper on roads that only Windsor could plow so poorly when... I notice my temperature gauge is approaching the red zone! Oh, wait, it gets better... something catches my eye on the opposite side of the dashboard. It's a rapidly blinking ABS light! It's bright red and going, ABS, ABS, ABS... ad infinitum! So what eh? It's just my brakes, just my engine, no biggie!

It's only Christmas week. What would I need brakes and an engine for? So what if I'm on slick roads in front of Windsor's only Mall with 20,000 cars all trying to get to shopping or home from shopping? Stress? What stress. As it turned out, I did stop when I braked, what more could I ask for? It was kind of like a skipping stone, but I stopped. (eventually.)

I did make it to my neighbourhood where instead of turning right onto my street I went straight for one more then turned right into my auto mechanic's lot! So, my Grand Am is there until further notice!

Oh and I forgot I had 2 turkeys and a ham in the trunk, they're still there, at the auto repair shop, in the trunk of my car. I called Peter and asked him to leave the car outside for the night, I'll go get the turkeys and ham tomorrow morning.

Michelle making a visible statement?

I was wrapping presents in the computer room and could hear Bob's voice coming from the other side of the house. He sounded amused but disconcerted so I had to check it out... above is what I found.

Michelle, studying for her Ornithology exam, wearing two shirts, hooded sweatshirt, woollen hat, scarf and mittens/gloves. I would like to point out our thermostat reads 74 degrees! When I went in to take a picture for this blog she ducked and said, "this is a serious issue, I'm just trying to stay warm."

Click the picture to get the full effect of the garb.

I think, she thinks we're mocking her?

Attention... Windsor is closed!

At least I bet it is. The storm hit, hit good and is still hitting. This pic, taken from the comfort of my back kitchen, through the window, does not do it justice.

I'm glad I went out and did everything yesterday! Wonder if we'll be able to get out by tomorrow?

**EDIT** I just had to put on boots and a coat and go outside. The birds were sitting in Doug,(the pumpkin ash tree,) looking longingly at the bird feeder which was under several inches of snow. I cleaned it off and they are now happily munching on sunflower seeds. Oh, the snow is up to the screen door at the side. Luckily it was light and just pushed away. (That door is just above ground level, if it gets to the bottom of the front door, past the porch we're in trouble!

My early starting and very condensed weekend!

My plans were to shop Saturday and Sunday, finish up my list and wrap gifts. When I heard the weather forecast, I realized all outdoor activities had to be done Saturday with Sunday likely being a snow day. No big deal, get an early start and don't come home until done. Buy all my baking stuff and bake all day Sunday if snowed in, hydro allowing, so as not to waste the day.

So how does the day start? Oh, how about by waking up at 4:11am? 4, freaking 11 am! Wide awake, no hopes of getting back to sleep. So, I came online, tried to read some newspapers, they were all still yesterday's news. Read CBC, CNN, checked my email, facebook and went back to bed. I read until about 6am, tried to go back to sleep, gave up at 7am and got back up. Went out at 8am.

I shopped from 8am until about 2pm. I'm now well ahead of the game and think I'm close to done! Actually, I'm done in more ways than one in that it's only 6:41pm and I've been up for 14 1/2 hours; I'm way too old for that!

Now, the weather. We're under a massive winter storm warning. Up to 30cm of snow. Keep in mind, banana belt here! 3cm shuts the roads. Windsor owns maybe 1 plow. Contractors do it, if they're in the mood. Let me put it this way, if a plow goes down our street, we race to the windows exclaiming... "the plow, the plow." Reminiscent of Hervé Villechaize on Fantasy Island. Ok, fine he said, "the plane, the plane," but you get the idea!

So, if there are no postings tomorrow, I have no hydro. Ominously, Hydro One is recommending people "stock up" just in case. I wonder what they know that we don't?

I have wine, food, wine, blankets, wine, candles & lots of wine, I'm good!

Burnaby, BC

I was just doing a quick check in before bed and I notice that the person in Burnaby has been back... hi! I think I know who you are... :)

I'm slothing tonight!

Mich and I are going to watch Harry Potter #5 and I'm doing nothing! Of course I just finished cooking 3 different meals for the 3 of us and now I'm going to clean up.
After that I'm slothing! No new posts, no updates, no nothing...

See you tomorrow! :)

Just a couple of other Christmasy spots in the house.

Putting up the tree... the saga

The tree wasn't up 10 minutes yet and was still naked!

Licorice ate the tree and puked on the skirt! She looks abashed, that or she's admiring her work?

It did get finished... though I just noticed the big hole on the right side.

What a production! First I put the middle part on the bottom and of course, screwed it ever so tightly into the tree holder upper! After I took it apart and put the three pieces in the right spots, branched started falling off. I lost several of the green peg thingys that hold the branches in, I think Licorice ate them! I used garbage bag ties, so don't look too closely if you come over.

Then I painstakingly tested every strand of lights and hung them from the top, down. I wrapped them around branches, I twisted I went inside the tree... I plugged them in and tada... one half of the top strand didn't light! Why does that happen? Why the top one every time? Can I find the 987 other lights I know I own? NOT! So we re-arranged quickly but 1/2 of one strand is still out. So, don't look too closely if you come over.

Nothing on my tree is glass. I have beautiful ornaments, some over 60 years old, they're in a box, in the attic. I have 40 year old Hummel ornaments, years of them. They're in a box, in the attic. I have a lovely Eastern Star for the top, it's in a box, in the attic. Why? Hello? Look at the pics? Just how long do you think they'd last? Licorice would eat them!

Half of the tree is ornaments Matthew and Michelle have made over the years. Including the sparkly dog poop. Yep, Mich made it in daycare out of clay; it's "O" shaped and painted green with red sparkles on it. Tonight reaching into the bag for ornaments to hang she exclaimed excitedly... "oh, our Christmas poop!" So, ummmm, don't look too closely if you come over ok?

Telemarketers: not my favourite people!

I'm done with them. When I answer my phone, you'd better be there, if not... when you are finally there, after me saying "hello, hello" 17 times, you are in for a very unpleasant surprise. I am NOT nice, I am NOT polite, I am, however, grammatical, non-profane and well spoken. I can call you an ass 7 ways from Sunday without swearing!

The one plaguing us today is this number. 000-000-000! Twice since I've been home and Michie says about 4 times earlier today, interrupting her studying for tomorrow's final exam!

I'm not answering next time. I think it's an Internet call, not sure though. I'll see if they leave an "please stay on the line, this is an urgent message from ___________'s office." Then I'll call ______________ 789 times, google and get ____________'s email and spam the hell out of him and then just for fun... post it here where you can all spam him too!

Now this did give Michie a big laugh today, on a day where she does not see much about which to laugh. Studying every minute of every day is NOT her idea of fun. So... after two of these calls, I'm standing in the living room talking to her, when I hear the phone ring. I raise my right index finger, indicating "hold on, I'll be right back" and walk into the front hall to answer the phone. It is NOT ringing. Michie is laughing uproariously and I am confused. Apparently it was an ad for Rogers phone on tv and well... it sounded just like ours and well... fooled me. Now I have yet another reason to destroy this telemarketer! ha... make me look silly eh?
This is war!

Bring it on 000-000-0000, I'm ready!

**EDIT** I've edited and way, way toned down, my title; it was unnecessarily mean and may, just MAY mind you, have been a tad over the top! (How unlike me eh?)

Welcome Air Canada... see posting below (6 or 7 down)

I emailed Air Canada the link to the posting about my miserable trip home from Calgary. They were here today at 9:53am... lets see what happens now!

Weekend wrap-up

What a weekend! Shopping in Detroit, (thanks for the trip!) I got tons of bargains, lots of selection and took a big chunk off my list. Then came home and Bob and I cleaned up the leaves that until about two weeks ago, were still on the trees. Sadly, it has snowed over them so it was a mess and took 8 bags. Way too wet to mulch. Then I put up a few lights outside. As it is now the second week of December, outside lights are ok! (Unlike the day after Halloween where it is NOT ok!)

Today, I shopped, twice. De-cluttered and scrubbed my computer room and ... slipped on the icy sidewalk and landed on my right hip and elbow. I laid there for a bit, got up, finished unpacking the car, came back into the house and kept working on the computer room. Then I made dinner, cleaned up dinner and Bob and I carried stuff two floors up to the attic.

Now I'm going to bed if I can make it up the stairs. If you don't see me tomorrow, I can't get out of bed... send food & books ok? Oh and wine, as long as I'm not on any good drugs! If I am on the good drugs, never mind the food or books either! ;)

Sandra Day O'Connor, a class act

Sandra Day O'Connor, the first female judge of the US Supreme Court, retired in 2005 to care for her husband John who was suffering from Alzheimer's disease. He is in an Alzheimer's care home and has now lost all memories of his life. This alone is pathetically sad. Add to this the fact that John has established a romantic relationship with a fellow patient. When Sandra visits, John's new "girl friend" is there too. They sit with Sandra, they hold hands.

Sandra says that this actually gives her some solace. She is happy for John, who has lost his past, finding a connection during this part of his life. Regardless of what she says, can you imagine the heartache it must cause? Yet she visits regularly, John has no idea who she is as he sits there holding his new friend's hand.

Sometimes, life is just macabre.

Travelodge, Strathmore

shower for at least 6 (never used it)
spare bedroom (never used it)
my bedroom (used it every night - even with the way too big pillows)
livingroom with fireplace (hospitality room used often)
jacuzzi tub (floated in it every morning)

Lovely hotel, great staff, eager to please. Now... this suite I had, OMG! I made the mistake of filling the tub too full the first morning. I couldn't sit in it, I floated! Six could have showered at once and I never did use the second bedroom!

*EDIT* Blogger is messing with my posts... do not adjust your machine!

My Calgary visit.

Auntie Sheila, me, Auntie Kay, my cousin Gillian. It was great! I also visited with my little cous Trisha, My Uncles Joe & Rick and my cousin Joey. We gossiped, we reminisced we enjoyed ourselves.

I really shouldn't be calling Auntie Sheila, Auntie. She's only 6 years older than I.

Looking at this pic... please keep in mind I wasn't sleeping well in the dry, dry air of the hotel and the pillows were way too big and well... I'm old dammit! :)

Air Canada - we're not unhappy 'til you're unhappy!

So... Living in Windsor I have the benefit of being able to fly out of Detroit, thereby avoiding Air Canada. Sadly, this last trip being within my own country's borders, I flew our national airline.

I must admit getting there was fine. Everything on time and no one was bitchy. I assume this was just a blip in their normal operations! The fact that the food sucks and you have to pay for it is another rant I shall save for later. Oh and you have to pay for teeny tiny pillows too if you want one.

Coming home, now here's the Air Canada we all know and love. Yes there were winter storms on the West coast and in Ontario and the East coast. Yes I understand that there were delays, cancellations and problems. Lets start with Calgary airport on my return flight.

1- There is no choice but to self serve at the machines for boarding passes. I was sharply told this by an Air Canada employee manning the line up for baggage checking in a snarly/snippy tone. She was holding the barrier thingy in her hand and snapping it shut then magically opening it again to grant us access. I went and used the machine. I had questions but the machine wouldn't answer.

2- When I went back to ask my questions, I was curtly directed to a winding line down the hall and told to go stand at the end of it. We cattle, herded along wistfully eying the magic portal manned by the woman in the blue uniform that would eventually allow us to put down our hopefully underweight bags.

3- By the time I arrived at the keeper of the gate's domain, I had forgotten my question.

4- I found out my plane, due to take off at 11:40 was now 12:05. Ok, my connecting flight to Windsor was at 6:18 Ontario time, 4:18 Alberta time. I now would have 20 minutes to catch it. I was told that would not be a problem. "They'll make up some time in the air." I am a fool.

5- standing in line to walk through the metal detector, someone's carry on luggage set off an alarm. Everyone working came to look. I looked. It was mine! sigh... I walked through, did not set off any alarms metal-wise and went over to my bag. The young man had a wand in his hand with a piece of fabric attached to it. I had failed the "explosives test." I quickly explained why and produced my Fireworks licenses and my handy/dandy letter from the Feds explaining why I would fail this test! They let me carry on. (ha, no pun intended.) My little tv screen thing didn't work. They re-set it and yet it still kept shutting off. I watched a movie in parts and am still not sure if I've seen the whole thing? They have settings for news too - this service is not available. Oh and Planet Earth shows, not available, oh and settings for... well you get the point.

5- Air Canada is NOT smart enough to deplane the passengers who have connecting flights first! Nope, why bother right?

6- I came out and showed my boarding pass for the next flight to another employee, she told me, "no problem, it's still here, go to gate whatever..." I asked about my suitcase. She told me to make a claim in Windsor. I said oh and then they'll deliver it to me. She said no, you can go back and get it. I said "wanna bet?" She didn't like that much.

7- I ran, yep me... running. I arrived, I held out my boarding pass only to be told... "there's no one missing from this flight." So I asked "what the hell am I?" She didn't like that much. She looked me up and said "oh, we switched you to another flight." I was amazed and asked why? They "assumed" I wouldn't make it. I asked them to let me on the plane. It was now 6:19, one minute after the scheduled departure. Had she NOT shut the boarding thingy and just let me on to start I'd have been on my way. Ah, the next flight... 10:45pm! Did I mention it was only 6:19? 4 hours and 29 minutes later. Now that's service! I could have fricking driven home in 4 hours and 29 minutes! I think that with all the cancellations and missed connections they gave my seat to someone else.

8- I left the secure area and went outside where it was a balmy -2. Compared to Strathmore it was bathing suit weather. I lit a smoke and called Michelle at work. When the other Pharmacy Technician answered and told me Mich was busy I asked her to please get her as I was sure I was about to be tasered! I paced, smoked, ranted and blew off steam to the Mich to avoid the whole tasering thing.

9- I went into expedia.ca cafe. I was seated by the waiter, then a tall, young skinny blonde was seated, then a tall, young skinny brunette was seated... guess which two got their orders taken, wine brought and food served first? hmmmmmmmmm? I just drank up my two glasses of Inniskillin, ate my Reuben and went back outside. I then called Joey and ranted, paced and smoked as I could see that taser getting closer and closer! I was going to go find more wine when I went back in but decided that perhaps adding more alcohol to my mood was NOT in my best tasering avoiding interest!

10- I got on the plane and waited to take off. Nope... baggage guys were busy, had to wait for them to load our plane. *edit* interestingly I did NOT set off the explosives alarm in Toronto, just the "there's a big metal blob in her purse," alarm for all the coin I had?

11- I got home, by cab, at midnight. With my suitcase I am happy and amazed to add!

12- I could have and should have flown to Europe for what that cost. Though I would have used Lufthansa!

*Many good things happened on my trip, the best being visiting with my family in Calgary and I will post pics and details when I am at home. (I'm at work but had to get this Air Canada thing off my chest!)

More from Strathmore Alberta

Lovely comment in my last posting from someone here in Strathmore. Having lived in Calgary in the early 80's I remember the chinooks coming in and the temperature going from -30 to +10 in a day! Sadly, the chinook is coming in on Tuesday and I am gone as of Monday. Thank you for the kind words and the welcome!

I'm liking Strathmore and yes I've been to the Station Restaurant. Great food, good wine and the guys are liking the Grasshopper beer. The people here are lovely, friendly and helpful. The restaurants all have great wine lists! I've only had a Tim's once and that was yesterday. OMG... the line up!

Yesterday we were in Rockyford, outside all day! I had Matthew's snowboarding pants, multi layered clothes and a scarf so I was fine, even in the -19 with the wind chill of about -26. As the day progressed and the wind picked up it did get a tad chilly though! The manual labour we did helped keep us warm too. (Fireworks tests.)

Today is a slower day which is nice after the days of constant meetings and work.

Now to the other comment poster whining that "our house is only 73 Celsius... brrr" Hi Michelle, I know that's you! I miss you. xoxo

There are no pics for these posts as I don't want to save to the hotel's hard drive so I'll add pics later!

The eye in the sky... Google Earth

For years the capture of our house on Google Earth was an old one. Showing driveways with cars of neighbours who hadn't lived here in years.

Trees long felled and no Doug, (the pumpkin ash tree of whom I've blogged a couple of times,) in the back yard.

Well, Google updated! The new pic is from this past summer. Just thought I'd share it.

p.s. Bob is quite impressed with how straight the fence he & Matthew built is!

Getting ready for Strathmore, Alberta

Dang, I'd forgotten about Alberta at this time of year, sunrise, 8:07, sunset, 4:30.
I don't want to talk about -19.

Ok, all I've packed is an extra warm jacket, snow pants, mittens and a scarf... my bag is 1/2 full! Dang... I need to pack for 6 days, plus two sets of dress clothes just in case we partake of the finer establishments. (Are there any there?) I Googled

Restaurants
BAR 1
CAFE 4
COFFEE 2
FAST FOOD 3
FONDUE 1
PIZZA 5
PUB 2
SANDWICHES 1
SEAFOOD 1
Unknown Category 23 ah, upon clicking I find, McD's, Timmy's - hooray, 3 Mr. Subs and a lot starting with the word rodeo and ending in saloon.

Ha... there's a winery, life is good! (Bah... open May - October!) All is not lost, there are plenty of liquor stores.

Heroes... so/so

The bleeding eyes and the lack luster multi-personality people were back... yawn! The rest of the episode was great!

Except the part when our snazzy DVR, set to record something, changed the channel and I missed next weeks scenes. I couldn't get it to go back. If only I had the magic power to actually control the TV! sigh...

Upcoming trip... no, not sun and surf!

The blue splotch, inside the blue circle is where I live. Way, way South in Ontario. The green arrow is where I am going on Wednesday, until Monday. Hello? Strathmore Alberta at the end of November? sigh... I'm packing snow pants!

We don't' get snow until January or February here in the banana belt!

**EDIT** by snow until January or Feburary, I mean REAL snow as we just got some wet stuff that is already gone as it changed to rain.

Turmoil at the office!

Ok, we had our new phone system installed. It's a fancy, schmancy, multi-line, intercom blah blah blah thingy. Now... We're moving up to the front offices after many, way toooooooo many, years of sharing an office. The moment the new phones were working, a certain person who may own the company, but will remain nameless, decided to park himself up front in his new office.

Then I made a huge mistake! I printed out a list of instructions on how to use the system and delivered it! What the hell was I thinking?

Within two minutes of my arriving back at my desk at our current, soon to be old, office, my line rang, two short rings. It showed extension #224... guess who read "how to use the intercom system?" sigh...

NO way am I showing him how to do a mass page through all the phones! I, after all, am the one with the instruction list, I can edit at will!

Tomorrow I may have to do a small act of sabotage! hehehe

Dwight Duncan not sexy, low wattage and just well... Dwightish

So my "favourite" M.P.P. is in the news again. This time for saying that "it's hard being the non sexy M.P.P. for Windsor." Going further to say that "she's got better legs than me." This was said, not in a bar, not in an informal gathering of friends but at the Ontario Economic Summit, in front of the province's top business leaders. Yep, this is the guy in charge of our Provincial coffers!

Remember Dwight? The guy who in 1996 ran for leadership of the party, lost, threw his support behind Kennedy after he and his supporters had agreed to "anyone but Kennedy?" Costing him more than half of his supporters who failed to follow him. The same Dwight who upon realizing McGuinty had won could be seen on CPAC wide eyed, sweating and clearly stating "we're f***ed?" The same Dwight who was then seen wandering the floor crying for his wife?

The same Dwight who has stuck his nose into my ward whom he does not represent, into a Municipal matter, endorsing a proposed project that was objected to by hundreds of residents?

Yep that's him, our illustrious Minister of Finance.

Now what's interesting is Sandra Pupatello's constant defense of her old buddy Dwight. When Dwight was nosing about in her ward's fight with City Hall, I called Sandra, she didn't care. Told me it was his right to appear should he so choose. Now she's defending his "sexy" comments about her saying they're old friends, they kibbutz, they tease.

Well, that's fine, in private. NOT at the Ontario Economic Summit. Come on Sandra, have some self respect, if not for yourself, for the rest of the women in this province.

Shame on both of you!

Heroes is back!

I was worried, this season, up until last week, I thought Heroes was lost, with Lost! Tonight's episode... OMG! It was stupendous.

I have invented a new computer lingo acronym... it made me GOL... gasp out loud! Yea!

But there's only 2 episodes left? Nothing beyond December 3rd, and that was pre writers strike.

If only they'd make more episodic, real, (not reality,) shows like this!

p.s. and as a bonus, no Nicky or bleeding eyed siblings in this episode.

Field Marshal, His Royal Highness, The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, KG, PC, KT, OM, GBE, QSO, CD, Colonel- in- Chief, & my Dad

My Dad told me the story of his meeting and having a beer with, H.R.H. Prince Philip a few times. It was when we were posted in Soest, Germany. I remember the day of the Royal Visit. I had to wear my Brownie uniform and we practised standing at attention. (The other time I had to wear my Brownie uniform to base was the first raising of the Canadian Maple Leaf Flag, I remember it like it was yesterday. (oops, only old people say that eh?)

Well, back to my Dad and Prince Philip, I just found this pic from a year book of our years in Soest.

Prince Philip, Centre second row. My Dad, third row, second from the left. I assume that's the day my Dad and Prince Philip shared a beer. (Though I suppose they met again in 1983 when Prince Philip came to CFB London for the Centenary of the Regiment.)

Another "SPORTING" story!

I'm not against hunting, in season, legally, humanely and if you eat what you kill... but this story just about made me drive to the guys house, (with a crossbow!)

http://huntinfo.blogspot.com/2007/10/another-backyard-buck-bites-dust.html

(I can't get the hyperlink to work so if you want to see the story in the guy's blog, copy and paste the above URL.)

Another Backyard Buck bites the dust!

My good buddy Marc put the smackdown on a tall-tined local deer last night. Here is his story...
Just before dark he heard this deer walking and finally saw him in one very little opening through a
bunch of vines about 25 yards away. He saw a bunch of horns and didn't
think twice. Squeezed the trigger on his crossbow and heard a really good thump. He
could only hear him run off about 25 yards or so. So he sat in the tree
stand waiting for it to get dark. When he got down and started looking around he found his arrow right away with good blood but could not find a blood trail anywhere. So he walked back to his house and
waited about an hour to get a flashlight. When he walked back up to
the spot and shined the light around and he saw a big deer about 50 yards
down the tree line from his arrow standing up with its head down looking
really weird and not even looking up. The buck staggered into the
woods and so he decided to go back to the house again and give it more time. After another hour gone by, he went to the spot where he saw him go into the woods and found blood. After a little more trailing into the
woods and into the back of the neighbor's property he tracked the
blood right to their pond. He shined the light around and what he originally thought was a rock protruding from the water later ended up being his deer!
It was floating in the middle of the pond! He made a quick recovery and with the help of another Deere got back to his house for some quick pics.
Nice buck Marc and great story! Congrats! Now help your buddy Bill get ones of those others you got on trail camera from earlier this year!!

Pretty funny story with a nice 7 pt. to show. First buck with a bow.

Yes sir... "pretty funny story!" Let the deer suffer for hours and find it drowned in a pond! Really sporting, really a story of which to be proud!

Test: What's wrong with this picture?

(Hint: Click the pic for a better view)

a) November 15th and the geraniums are still blooming.
b) My neighbour across the street has fricking Christmas lights up!
c) They've had them up for almost two weeks!
d) All of the above!

sheesh... really Christmas fricking lights! Hello? I think they went up the day after Halloween! Bah Humbug. (Though in some ways, rushing this year to be over is not such a bad idea.)

signed: The Grinch!
P.S. Our leaves have finally turned colour.

*EDIT 10:10pm* P.P.S. Wow, I'm pretty cranky eh? Ignore me, maybe I'll be happier tomorrow!

Parcel from Germany

Today I came home to a parcel from my family in Germany! First I spent time looking at the stamps which made Michelle threaten to cut through them if I didn't open the package! Nice eh? Being a avid stamp collector I was shocked and dismayed by her attitude. I keep telling her, I brought her into this world, I can take her out!

In the parcel was a photo album of my cousin Heike's wedding and pictures of her baby Jana, who has been featured here before. Also in it were pics from the 60's.
(There are pics from the 40's and 50's too, but that's another post.)

They sent me two "Thun" Angels. They match the one my Oma, (Grandmother,) sent me years ago. :)

Seriously, this turning 50 has advantages! My family all came down (best gift!), I got great gifts, I had two parties, I got more gifts, wine, cards and candy last weekend, so other than the whole falling apart thing, 50's not so bad.

Click pics to enlarge.

pic #2 - me (with curled hair!) and Barbara looking out the window at Oma's house
pic #1 - my First Communion taken outside our apartment building in Soest Germany. Barbara has my purse and I'm thinking I'm not impressed! Mom, Dad, Oma, Opa, Tante Gitti holding Sandra (looking at this pic, I'm pretty sure Mom is not happy with what Barbara and I are doing!)

Ok fine, no posts for 4 days!

It's taken me this long to recover from two parties in 7 days! Last Saturday's party was a good one too. The last guests left at 3:30am. The weather allowed us to be outside again. We had two fires and fireworks. (Again... if you are from the Windsor Fire Department, no we didn't!)

Oh and I guess it's true that you fall apart at 50! The bonding came off my front tooth at the party, so for 4 days I was a hillbilly. Though I could make a cool whistling sound through the hole! (Dr. Chase, my dentist, was impressed.)

And you all mocked me when I had the plague!

See? I told you it could have been plague! Fine, I haven't skinned any lions lately but hey, there are lots of feral cats in my hood, I could have been scratched by one. Last night, coming into the yard after work, Bob had a run in with a giant raccoon and a opossum! (Hmmmm is it a opossum or an opossum? You don't say the o part so now I'm confused!)Regardless, there's a plethora of wildlife here and anything could happen! ha!

T minus a mere 4 hours and 10, 9 , 8 , 7 ... minutes!

Yes folks, it's official! My birthday Eve... 50 looms menacingly and for some strange reason I'm feeling really, really tired!

This pic is of my 1st birthday, I thought it appropriate.

Commander & Chief

Really, all these years and still the little guy never fails to amuse...

"My message was that we believe strongly in elections and that you ought to have elections soon and you need to take off your uniform. You can't be the president and the head of the military at the same time," Bush told a news conference.

I need some "white out" for my screen!

I love the use of the word "whom." It tries to make the headline so serious, so grammatical! They look so foolish... "For whom would you never vote?" THAT is how this questions should have been phrased! GAWD! (Sorry for the rant but this is one of my pet peeves!) It's up there with "where's your car at? or What time are you going at?) Just typing those make my teeth hurt!
