Yep, it's official. Our new Arena, the one we've been waiting for for 20 years or so has it's name! woo hoo...
They forgot a couple of letters though. It should be WFCUHBT Centre...

Let's compare: Air Canada Centre, Labatt Centre, Joe Louis Arena, Cobo Hall, Barrie Molson Centre... WFCU Centre ... sigh
Well, my blog is only 82 visits away from it's 2000th visitor! do realize that in the blog world, that's not much but hey, I'm no big political pundit, just me blathering about my day so I think that's not too shabby a total!
Today, someone from Reston Virginia, googled the WFCU Centre and Google's second return, after Wikepedia... was ME! My post, two posts ago about the new name. (I am humbled being so close to a Wiki link!)
Sure hope it wasn't someone the Spitfires were trying to recruit, they may not want to play in the FU centre eh?

Not sure of why you have a sigh...even after the 28 years windsorites have been waiting. Yes, 28, it was first mentioned in the windsor star back in late '79 that we should replace the barn. You mentioned arenas that are home to NHL franchises as though Windsor should compete with them. Windsor neither has the draw as an NHL city or one that could support the multi-million dollar salaries. You should be happy that this is finally coming about. I am. Good for Windsor for finally putting in place an arena that can host certain tournaments and be able to showcase those talented players that live in windsor and the surrounding areas. My only concern is that it looks like only one sheet has stands. The other 3 look like practice rinks, which means they are no better then upgraded "adstoll's". The committee handling this should make all sheets with stands of some sort.
Just my thoughts...

Hi thanks for your thoughts and comment. I am not "sighing" over the arena itself, though I do believe it should be in the downtown area, (and wonder what will happen to the land expropriated for that purpose?) I am sighing over the name. WFCU Centre. It has no flow, lends itself to, unfortunately profane usage and I know will end up being called the FU Centre. There was not meant to be a comparison with NHL venues, just names of arenas.
